INTRO TO BASIC ENCAUSTIC

This four (4) hour class starts with a brief history of encaustic painting and basic instruction on safety. You will be introduced to the basics of painting with pigmented wax, including fusing, incising and layering. You’ll delve into the myriad of ways to manipulate the wax through collage, stenciling, imbedding and photo transfers.

After the demonstration of each technique, you will be able to take everything you have learned and create your own piece of art. You will end the day with a finished piece of art (or three!) to take home. You can bring your own small bits of ephemera to add: old paper, lace, cloth, ribbon. Also bring photocopies of favorite photos (laser/toner) in black and white or color, if you would like to personalize your art.

Includes all materials/supplies, wax and 3 cradled boards (4×4,6×6,8×8) as well as practice boards. Class size limited to 4 students.
